Abstract
The "Joint (AC)³ - MOSAiC Conference 2027 (JAMC27)" offers a forum for open, multi-disciplinary scientific exchange on the overarching theme of “Drivers and Impacts of a Changing Arctic.” The international polar research community is invited to present and discuss scientific results achieved over the past decade, including findings from (AC)³, MOSAiC, and other Arctic research activities.
JAMC27 seeks to summarize, synthesize, and contextualize recent advances in understanding Arctic amplification, circulation changes, declining sea ice, oceanic change, coupled polar climate systems, as well as their driving and feedback mechanisms, model representations, and societal implications. Sessions will cover a wide range of themes spanning Arctic physical, chemical, biological, and human systems. Broad temporal and spatial scales will be considered, from microbial communities to synoptic circulation patterns, and from local, regional, and global processes to coupled climate dynamics. Contributions are invited that utilize laboratory, ground-based, airborne, and satellite observations; model simulations at scales from processes to global; model parameterization assessment and development; and stakeholder needs, applications and datasets. While the primary focus is on the Arctic, contributions on emerging topics in Antarctic science are also welcome. Overall conference goals are to coordinate and focus future Arctic observational and modeling actions towards enhanced understanding of Arctic system change, advanced model predictive capabilities, and improved applicability of scientific outputs for policy, governance, and society, including Indigenous interests. Importantly the conference will help guide the next generation of polar scientists towards addressing urgent scientific challenges in polar research.
